We are an informal club and welcome members of all abilities and experience. There is absolutely no requirement to commit to training but do feel free to come to as many or as few sessions as you please! Our main sessions are on Monday and Thursday nights, and Saturday afternoons. As of Hilary Term 2017, our popular conditioning sessions now run on a Tuesday night 8-9pm.
Mondays, 20:30-22:30, Iffley Road Sports Centre
We train on Monday evenings in the sports hall at the Iffley Road Sports Centre. The facility contains tumbling mats, crash mats, trampettes, springboards, rings and a mushroom among other facilities. Great for learning new skills, honing your current skills and toning your body!
Alternatively, Abingdon Gym Club do hold an open Adult session from 20:00-21:15 on Monday evenings. These are run on a pay as you go basis and cost £7 per session: there is an excellent selection of equipment, including a foam pit, but there might not always be members of the university club present. The X40 leaves H3 bus stop outside Christ Church on St Aldates at 19:15 and the return leaves Berinsfield at 21:46.
Tuesdays, 20:00-21:00, Conditioning at St John’s College (meet on Lamb and Flag Passage)
Useful for building and maintaining the strength that is vital for progressing techniques, this workout for all abilities means we can spend more time focusing upon apparatus work when we train at Abingdon on Thursdays and Saturdays. We don’t currently have a long-term venue for Conditioning. Watch out for the weekly emails, or contact us if you are unsure 🙂 These sessions are free to all members of the club!
If you can’t face conditioning – come on, it’s the highlight of the week (and it’s free) – Abingdon Gym Club have another open session on Wednesdays, from 20:00-21:30, which also caters for beginners and advanced gymnasts (do watch out for their gymnasts flipping about because this session overlaps with their own squad!). Again, it costs £7 and is more structured than the Monday night, with conditioning and preps to build strength and learn new skills. Catch the bus at 7.20 and 9.46 and you’ll be back for about 10.10pm.
Thursdays, 20:15-21:30, Abingdon Gymnastics Club, Berinsfield
We catch the X40 together [bus timetable] at 19:35 from St. Aldates H3 bus stop outside Christ Church College on Thursday evenings to Abingdon Gym Club.
Abingdon has excellent facilities with a sprung floor, tumble track and fast track, rings, high bar, asymmetric bars, pommel horse, vault, and much more.
The 21:46 bus gets us back for around 22:15.
Saturdays, 17:15-19:30, Abingdon Gymnastics Club, Berinsfield
Our main session of the week where there is more time to use all of the apparatus: meet at 16:30 at the H3 St. Aldates bus stop for X40 at 16:40 [bus timetable].
The bus back leaves Berinsfield at 19:47 and should have us back for 20:05.
